Hi Robin. I hear you. But is AI a real threat to truly talented human story tellers like yourself when the best it can do is "mimic" your masterful craft? Would't readers be able to tell the difference between a bot writer and you? I suspect AI is here to stay, so sooner or later we'll have to find a way to regulate how much AI-generated content is allowed to be incorporated into works of literature so that we can live with it without feeling cheated.

I hope this is possible. However, as I have discovered over the years I've been publishing novels, there is already a lot of poor writing out there done by humans. There are so very, very many books published (good and bad) that getting one's work noticed is nearly Sisyphean. AI-generated books are adding to the sheer mass of the flotsam authors must push through, and I can't help but suspect that they are further cheapening the overall quality in a way that too many readers can't detect. Oh, I will keep writing, and my small but loyal fan base will continue to refer to my work as writing that makes them think, and perhaps my audience would never be large anyway (given how many people want to read strictly for entertainment). But I'm running out of ideas to expand my reader base, and I fear AI-generated fiction will increase the challenge further. I fear you are correct, that AI is here to stay.. And I will do what I can (such as this post) to highlight the need for the regulation you suggest is possible.
